T&W IN THE COMMUNITY: VIJAY SESHADRI AND YOUTH POETS AT THE NEW YORK TRANSIT MUSEUM
April 26 – 2:00 PM

  • T&W and the New York Transit Museum present Vijay Seshadri and youth poets in a reading celebrating the experience of life in New York City. The reading is part of T&W’s newest project, A Poem as Big as the City, which engages young people citywide in the literary arts by bringing professional writers to libraries, museums, schools, and other community sites. Seshadri’s collections of poems include James Laughlin Award winner The Long Meadow (Graywolf Press, 2004) and Wild Kingdom (1996). His poems, essays, and reviews have appeared in several periodicals, including The American Scholar, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, the Times Book Review, and in many anthologies, including The Best American Poetry (1997 and 2003). He currently teaches poetry and nonfiction writing at Sarah Lawrence College, and lives in Brooklyn with his wife and son.

T&W IN THE COMMUNITY: A POEM AS BIG AS THE CITY AT BARNES & NOBLE IN TRIBECA
May 9 – 11:00 AM

  • Youth poets from PS 111M on the Lower East Side will read poems written for A Poem as Big as the City, T&W’s community poetry project in which young people citywide are writing poems about what it means to live and grow up in New York. Audience members at the event will have the opportunity to participate in a writing activity led by a T&W writer. The activity will inspire both children and adults to express their insights about New York life in poetry in connection with A Poem as Big as the City.

T&W is also planning workshops at other community sites and schools. To discuss holding a workshop at your organization or school, please contact T&W at workshops or 212-691-6590.
