Brook Stephenson is a writer and educator. His short fiction column “the hustle” was published in rolling out urbanstyle weekly from 1998-2000. He moved to New York City in 2001 to manage that same paper and in 2004 left to freelance for The Source, King Magazine, XXL, Uptown Magazine, Black Issues Book Review, and others. He was the founding literary editor for natcreole.com and the city and culture editor for industrycosign.com. Stephenson has created curriculum for and taught youth programs through Urban Arts Partnership and at Harlem Children’s Zone, Queens Public Library, The School of Visual Arts, and the National Parks Service. He formerly taught elementary school in Atlanta. Stephenson is a 2010 artist-in-residence at the ChaNorth Residency in upstate New York and is proud to be a second-generation artist and a decent cook known to globetrot. He lives in Brooklyn and is currently at work on his first novel.
