Dave is the author of the play Baptized to the Bone (Dramatists 2005) and Marble Shoot, a book of poems (Hummingbird Press/Wake Forest University 1996); and the editor of an anthology of poems, Movin’: Teen Poets Take Voice (Scholastic/Orchard Books 2000). Baptized to The Bone enjoyed a sold-out run in May 2009 at the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. The play was honored as best new play of the year by the Dallas/Fort Worth Critics Forum for the production at the Water Tower Theatre in 2004. Dave’s acting won critical acclaim from the New York Times in 1996 for his role in Romulus Linney’s play True Crimes and from the Village Voice in 1997 for his role in Linney’s Mock Trial. Dave has appeared as a featured poet on CNN International News, World Headline News, the Today Show (NBC), and WNBC-Channel 4 New York’s Nightly News. He has received two prizes for his work from the Academy of American Poets. Dave is a lecturer at Yale University, a visiting faculty member of the MFA Program at The New School University, and an instructor at The Cooper Union School of Art. He teaches poetry workshops and seminars extensively to young writers through Teachers & Writers Collaborative. He also teaches young adults, adults, and seniors in public libraries, for Poets House’s nationwide Poetry in The Branches Public Library Initiative. Dave has served as co-educational coordinator for the International Poetry and Music Festival, The People’s Poetry Gathering. His poems have recently appeared in Washington Square and the Texas Review, and he appeared as the guest artist for the Manhattan Borough President’s inauguration in 2006 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dave’s new CD recording of poems, Dead Heat, was released in summer 2009.
