Kathleen has taught art, writing, and cartooning residencies over the past 15 years through Artists-in-the-Schools, Poets on the Prairie, Very Special Arts, Yellowstone Park, Artist’s Space, and Teachers & Writers Collaborative. Through T&W, she has taught writing in every borough in New York City, working in K-12 schools as well as with students in District 75/special education. Prior to teaching in New York, Kathleen taught art, cartooning, and poetry to students all over Montana, working in one-room schoolhouses, the major cities, and the Crow and Blackfoot Reservations. At CEU in Blanding, Utah, Kathleen taught studio arts to Navaho high school students. In 2006, she was poet-in-residence for Grover Cleveland High School Poetry Club in Ridgewood, Queens. In 2006–2008, she taught cartooning at the Forward School of Creative Writing in the Bronx. And in 2009, she led a writing workshop for women in an “Alternatives to Incarceration” program, and taught poetry to teenage girls attending a Yeshiva school.
Kathleen’s written work can often be found in the Berkeley arts journal Works and Conversations. In the last few years, her artwork has taken form as “Peephole Dioramas” installed on the fences of gardens on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The next show will run from September 14 through October 25, at Garden 9C (east side of Avenue C between 9th and 10th Streets).
